Right now John Douglass and Jacob Milam are currently in San Francisco demonstrating the application at IDF 09. They will be presenting a slide deck showcasing the improvements we have made to the application in addition actually giving live demonstrations of the application. Currently the application works so long as the phone has access to the Internet so we have high hopes that there will be wi-fi for them to utilize. Below is a short video showing the application in action while in Atlanta.

Preparing for IDF

The big day is almost here. Intel’s IDF 2009 Conference in San Francisco is in less than 5 days and the team is nearly ready for their presentation. John Douglass and Jacob Milam will be attending the conference and presenting the application on stage in addition to providing live demonstrations of the application at our booth. In preparation for the on stage presentation we interviews our friends and neighbors asking for feedback on the application and this is what they said.

We are very pleased with how the application has developed over time and we plan on continuing development till December to coincide with the end of our academic semester. We hope to have the opportunity to present our application at future conferences while continuing to add more functionality.

It is nearing the end of July and the summer semester is coming to a close. Today we have a presentation to demo our application and answer any questions that may come up with regards to our development process. Below I have embedded the slides that we will be presenting and following the presentation I will upload the videos so you can watch them at your leisure.

The “Better Hood Group” Presents: Making Better Hoods

This will be our temporary home to showcase the development of our Android 2.0 application. This application is being developed for Intel’s Developer Forum this Fall at which a select group of schools will be presenting forward thinking projects. At Georgia Tech there are two teams of three students with each team developing an independent project over the summer semester. At the end of the semester, the “best” project will continue to be developed during August and the first half of September in preparation for presentation.

My team has chosen to develop a neighborhood relationship application to be used to form relationships between neighbors. More often than not neighbors know very little about each other and we feel it shouldn’t be this way. Rather than be a collection of houses, we feel a neighborhood should be a collection of people. Sure, you aren’t going to want to spend every free moment with your neighbors, but when you are looking for a group activity or help, we hope that our application would be able to help speed things up.

To introduce the design prompt, Professor Michael Nitsche of Georgia Tech provided a short video clip explaining the design focus and target audience.

Next up, John and Chris give a short presentation showcasing their design idea, a short walk-through of the preliminary UI concepts, and elaborate on the target audience and goals.

New Website, URL, Same Content

Just a minor update, we decided to purchase a URL for the project and move the project blog to its new location. The URL is by far much easier to memorize and it rolls off the tongue versus http://www.lcc3710.gatech.edu/gtg487w/wordpress. http://www.thebetterhood.com just flows much smoother, eh? Hold on while we attempt to make the transition as fast as possible.
